FORMER police chief Christine Nixon's eight-year reign was compared to bushrangers and mafia figures in State Parliament last night.
Western suburbs Liberal MP Bernie Finn launched his scathing attack on Ms Nixon when discussing changes to the Police Regulation Bill in Upper House question time.
Mr Finn said Ms Nixon had ripped out the morale of the Victorian police and "caused more damage than Ned Kelly, Squizzy Taylor and Alphonse Gangitano combined,'' in her years as the state's top cop.
"We all know that Christine Nixon was somewhat of a control freak, just to understate it,'' Mr Finn said.
"She set out at the beginning of her tenure as chief commissioner to destroy the Victorian police force as we knew it, and I have to say she succeeded admirably.
"It may have been great for the feminist movement, but it was a disaster for law and order in Victoria.''
Ms Nixon was also criticised for destroying the public's trust in the police and for placing too much emphasis on police corruption.
"She ripped up the culture of the Victorian police to the point where the majority of Victorians now have no confidence in Victoria Police,'' Mr Finn said.
Mr Finn has never hid his disdain for Ms Nixon or her successor, Chief Commissioner Simon Overland.
"The current chief commissioner, who supports this bill, I think it is safe to say, has never been on the beat one day in his life."
"He is what is known round the traps as an academic copper."
